The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League concluded with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally clinching their maiden title, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a thrilling final by 6 runs. The season was filled with record-breaking performances, showcasing the immense talent and competitive spirit of the league.

Batting Records Shattered

Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans emerged as the youngest player to score over 700 runs in a single season. The 23-year-old amassed 759 runs in 15 innings, with an impressive average of 54.21 and a strike rate of 156.18. His consistent performance included six half-centuries and a brilliant unbeaten century (108*) against Delhi Capitals. Previously, Shubman Gill held the record for being the youngest to achieve this feat. Other notable performances in the run-scoring charts included Suryakumar Yadav who was just behind Sudharsan with 717 runs, and Virat Kohli who finished with 657 runs.

Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in the IPL, scoring a blistering 141 off just 55 balls. Priyansh Arya of Punjab Kings also made headlines by smashing the fastest century by an uncapped player.

Suryakumar Yadav set a world record by registering 14 consecutive scores of 25+ in T20 cricket. He also became the first non-opener to score 600+ runs in two IPL seasons (2023 and 2025).

Bowling Brilliance

Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans claimed the Purple Cap, finishing as the highest wicket-taker of the season with 25 wickets in 15 matches. He edged out strong competition from Noor Ahmad of Chennai Super Kings, who took 24 wickets. Josh Hazlewood of RCB followed closely with 22 wickets. Krishna is the seventh Indian to win the Purple Cap and the second Gujarat Titans bowler after Mohammed Shami in 2023.

Several bowlers displayed exceptional economy rates, with Naman Dhir leading the pack with an impressive 5.25.

Team Achievements

Royal Challengers Bengaluru created history by becoming the first team to win all seven of their away league matches in a single IPL season. This remarkable feat showcased their adaptability and resilience under pressure. This winning momentum continued into the playoffs, culminating in their victory in the final.

Punjab Kings chased down a 200+ target against Mumbai Indians, marking the first time they had achieved such a feat in IPL history.

RCB's victory in the final was particularly significant as it ended their 18-year wait for an IPL title. They became the eighth different team to lift the coveted trophy. RCB also joined Deccan Chargers, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans as teams that have won the IPL final despite losing the toss.

Individual Milestones

Krunal Pandya achieved a unique milestone by becoming the first player to win two Player of the Match awards in IPL finals. Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest debutant and youngest centurion in IPL history, marking a promising start to his IPL career.

Shreyas Iyer became the first captain to reach IPL finals with three different teams, showcasing his leadership skills and tactical acumen.

Overall Season Statistics

The IPL 2025 season witnessed a record-breaking 26,381 runs being scored, the highest in any single edition of the tournament. This underscored the increasing dominance of batsmen and the ever-evolving nature of T20 cricket.

The final between RCB and PBKS saw a total of 14 sixes being hit, the most in an innings in an IPL final.

The IPL 2025 season was a memorable one, filled with thrilling contests, outstanding individual performances, and significant milestones. The records broken and the emergence of new stars added to the legacy of the league, setting the stage for an even more exciting future.
