The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix has been formally extended, securing its place on the F1 calendar through 2027. This two-year extension, confirmed on Saturday, June 14, 2025, ensures that the thrilling race down the iconic Las Vegas Strip will continue to be a part of the Formula 1 schedule.

The announcement of the extension comes after the Las Vegas Grand Prix made its debut in 2023, with Formula 1 itself acting as the promoter. The race had an initial three-year contract, but with the new agreement, fans can look forward to at least two more years of racing action in Sin City. The 2026 F1 calendar had already included the Las Vegas Grand Prix, even before the extension was officially announced.

Emily Prazer, the president of the Las Vegas Grand Prix and chief commercial officer of F1, expressed her enthusiasm for the extension, stating, "We've agreed collectively that we're going to do a two-year extension for 2026 and '27. We want to make sure that we're continuing to evolve what we're doing, but the intent is a much longer-term arrangement." Prazer acknowledged the challenges the race has faced but expressed confidence in its future success.

The two-year extension is a departure from the recent trend of longer contracts, such as the Miami Grand Prix's deal that extends to 2041. However, Steve Hill, CEO and president of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, explained that the length of the extension simply reflects current planning needs. "We're planning on this being a permanent race, we'll just keep planning extensions that will probably expand as we go forward," Hill said.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix has already proven to be a significant economic driver for the city. According to figures released from the 2024 event, the race generated $934 million in revenue and raised $45 million in taxes. The race week attendance was 306,000, with 175,000 visitors coming from out of town. The event has also helped to boost Las Vegas' commercial performance during one of its traditionally weaker periods. November 2024 was the most commercially successful November in the city's history.

The inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix in 2023 was not without its challenges. High ticket and hotel prices, along with a delayed practice session due to a loose water valve cover, caused some initial setbacks. However, adjustments were made for the 2024 race, including reduced hotel rates. For the upcoming 2025 race, the start time has been moved earlier to 8 p.m. to improve the experience for fans and teams.

Despite the early hurdles, the Las Vegas Grand Prix has delivered exciting on-track action. Max Verstappen won the inaugural race in 2023, while George Russell took the top spot on the podium in 2024. With the extension secured, Formula 1 and the city of Las Vegas are committed to building on the success of the race and ensuring its long-term presence on the calendar.
