Connor McDavid has signaled that significant adjustments are coming for the Edmonton Oilers as they prepare for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. With the series tied 2-2, the Oilers are aiming to capitalize on their return to home ice at Rogers Place and seize a crucial lead. After a dramatic comeback victory in Game 4, McDavid is emphasizing the need for a stronger start and a more disciplined approach to avoid falling behind early.

"We want to get off to better starts," McDavid told the media on Saturday morning. "Can't be chasing games like we have been kinda all series long. I'd expect a good start tonight."

The Oilers' tendency to trail early in games has been a recurring theme throughout the series, with Florida dictating the play in the opening periods. In Game 4, the Oilers found themselves down 3-0 after the first period before mounting a record-breaking comeback to secure a 5-4 overtime win. This win, sealed by Leon Draisaitl's overtime goal, has injected confidence into the team and allowed them to regain home-ice advantage.

Several changes are expected for the Oilers in Game 5. Goaltender Calvin Pickard will get the nod to start in net, replacing Stuart Skinner. Pickard took over for Skinner in Game 4 after the Oilers fell behind 3-0, and he played a pivotal role in the comeback, saving 23 of 24 shots. Coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed Pickard as the starter, acknowledging his solid performance and the confidence he instilled in the team. "It's exciting. A good opportunity for me," Pickard said. "It feels like another game for me... our team really battled back, and getting a win gives you some confidence."

Additionally, forward Viktor Arvidsson will re-enter the lineup, taking the place of Kasperi Kapanen. Arvidsson will join Evander Kane and Mattias Janmark on the fourth line. Arvidsson has two goals and five assists in 14 playoff games and is expected to bring a fresh set of legs to the lineup. Troy Stecher will also remain in the lineup on defense.

The Panthers, on the other hand, are expected to maintain the same lineup for the second consecutive game. Florida has managed to score first in the last three games and will be looking to continue that trend.

McDavid is still searching for his first goal in the Stanley Cup Final. Although he has six assists, tying him for second in series scoring behind Draisaitl's seven points, his scoring touch will be critical for the Oilers to gain an edge. McDavid and Draisaitl are currently the top two point-getters in the NHL playoffs, with 32 points each.

As the series shifts back to Edmonton, the Oilers are hoping for an electric atmosphere at Rogers Place. The winner of Game 5 in a 2-2 Stanley Cup Final has historically gone on to win the series nearly 75% of the time, adding significant weight to tonight's matchup.
