Panama commenced their Gold Cup 2025 campaign with a commanding performance against Guadeloupe, establishing a 3-0 lead early in the game, courtesy of goals from Christian Martínez and Ismael Díaz. The match, held at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, saw Panama displaying their attacking prowess from the kickoff.

Christian Martínez set the tone early, finding the net in the 7th minute, assisted by Jorge Gutierrez. This early goal provided Panama with the confidence and momentum they needed to control the game. Martínez's goal was a testament to Panama's aggressive start and their intent to dominate the match from the outset.

Ismael Díaz then took center stage, scoring a brace within a span of just four minutes. His first goal came in the 13th minute, assisted by Michael Murillo, further solidifying Panama's lead. Díaz quickly followed up with another goal in the 17th minute, extending Panama's advantage to 3-0. Díaz's quickfire double showcased his finishing ability and Panama's potent attack, leaving Guadeloupe struggling to contain their opponents.

Despite Panama's dominant first half, Guadeloupe managed to pull one back. Jordan Leborgne scored for Guadeloupe in the 29th minute, assisted by Thierry Ambrose. This goal offered a glimmer of hope for Guadeloupe, reducing the deficit and providing them with some momentum heading into halftime.

However, Panama continued their dominance in the second half, with Eduardo Guerrero scoring a penalty in the 22nd minute, further extending Panama's lead to 4-1.

The match ultimately concluded with Panama securing a 4-1 victory over Guadeloupe.

Panama's coach, Thomas Christiansen, faced some challenges leading up to the tournament, with key players Adalberto Carrasquilla and Edgar Yoel Bárcenas absent, in addition to strikers José Fajardo and Cecilio Waterman. Despite these absences, the team demonstrated depth and resilience, with Martínez and Díaz stepping up to lead the attack.

Historically, Panama and Guadeloupe have had a balanced rivalry in the Gold Cup, with one win each in their previous encounters. Guadeloupe won their first match in 2009 with a score of 2-1, while Panama took revenge in 2011, winning 3-2.
