The Delhi Premier League (DPL) is generating buzz as it gears up for its 2025 season, especially with the inclusion of relatives of Indian cricket legends in the upcoming auction. Aaryaveer Kohli, the nephew of Virat Kohli, and Aaryavir Sehwag, the son of Virender Sehwag, are set to participate in the auction, scheduled for July 5.

Aaryaveer Kohli, a 15-year-old leg-spinner and son of Virat Kohli's elder brother Vikas, has been placed in Category C of the draft. He hones his skills under the guidance of Raj Kumar Sharma, who also coached Virat Kohli during his childhood, at the West Delhi Cricket Academy. Aaryaveer was a registered player for Delhi Under-16s last season, making him eligible for this category.

Aaryavir Sehwag, the 17-year-old son of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag, is also in the mix. Aaryavir, who has represented Delhi Under-19s, made headlines after scoring a remarkable 297 against Meghalaya in the Cooch Behar Trophy. His younger brother, Vedant Sehwag, a 15-year-old off-spinner who has played for Delhi Under-16s, is also listed in Category B alongside Aaryavir. Aaryavir's impressive performance in the Cooch Behar Trophy, where he scored 297 runs with 51 fours and three sixes, demonstrates his aggressive batting style, drawing comparisons to his father. Virender Sehwag has openly supported his son's ambition to play in the IPL.

The DPL 2025 season will feature eight teams, with the addition of Outer Delhi and New Delhi franchises joining the existing six: East Delhi Riders, North Delhi Strikers, West Delhi Lions, South Delhi Superstarz, Purani Dilli 6, and Central Delhi Kings. In the inaugural season, East Delhi Riders emerged as champions, defeating South Delhi Superstarz in a thrilling final. The DPL has gained recognition for showcasing talent, with players like Priyansh Arya using it as a launchpad to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The inclusion of Aaryaveer Kohli and Aaryavir Sehwag in the DPL auction has generated considerable excitement, with many viewing it as a stepping stone to the IPL. Aaryaveer trains with Virat Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma, at the West Delhi Cricket Academy, and was part of Delhi's U16 side last season. Aaryavir, following in his father's footsteps, aims to play in the IPL and has been working hard to achieve his goal. In November 2024, Aaryavir Sehwag announced himself with a score of 200 in the Cooch Behar Trophy.

With the DPL auction drawing near, all eyes will be on these young cricketers as they compete for contracts and aim to make a mark in the league. Their performance in the DPL could pave the way for future opportunities in the IPL and beyond.
