The Montreal Canadiens have traded defenseman Logan Mailloux to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Zachary Bolduc. The trade was announced on July 1, 2025, just before the free agent market opened.

Mailloux, a former first-round pick (31st overall) by the Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, had a somewhat controversial history with the team. Prior to the draft, Mailloux had renounced himself, stating he wanted to focus on growth and reconciliation. This came after he was fined in Sweden for secretly taking and sharing photos of a young woman during a sexual act. Despite this, the Canadiens selected him, sparking debate.

In his final season with the Canadiens organization, Mailloux split time between the NHL and AHL. He played seven games in the NHL, recording two goals and four points. With the Laval Rocket in the AHL, he tallied 12 goals and 21 assists in 63 games. In January 2025, Mailloux was named to the AHL All-Star Classic for the second time in his career. He was also selected for the league's Top Prospects Team, helping Laval achieve the best regular-season record in the AHL and reach the conference finals.

Bolduc, also a former first-round pick from the 2021 NHL Draft, was selected by the Blues. The 22-year-old forward has played 97 career NHL games, amassing 24 goals and 45 points. Last season, Bolduc appeared in 72 games for the Blues, scoring 19 goals and 36 points, which ranked fourth among rookies in goals.

The Canadiens also traded goaltender Cayden Primeau to the Carolina Hurricanes for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Primeau, 25, had a 2-3-1 record with a 4.70 goals-against average and .836 save percentage in 11 NHL games this season. He also posted a 21-2-2 record with a 1.96 GAA and .927 save percentage in 26 AHL games for Laval.

These moves come as the Canadiens are actively reshaping their roster. Recently, Montreal acquired Noah Dobson. The Canadiens also tendered a contract offer to Joe Veleno.
