Jamal Musiala's anticipated return to the Bayern Munich lineup is currently uncertain following a serious injury sustained during the Club World Cup quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain. The injury occurred in the first half of the match after a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Reports indicate that Musiala suffered a fractured fibula in his left leg and also damaged some ligaments. The German media outlet Bild estimates that this type of injury will sideline him for four to five months. Bayern Munich has not released an official update on Musiala's condition, but his participation for the rest of the tournament and the start of the 2025-2026 season remains uncertain. Sky Sports in Germany reports Musiala will be out for at least four months. He is expected to undergo surgery immediately upon his return to Germany.

The collision occurred near the end of the first half when Musiala was chasing a loose ball. Replays of the incident were considered too graphic to be shown on stadium screens. Donnarumma appeared distressed after realizing the extent of the injury. Musiala was visibly in pain and was stretchered off the field.

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany expressed his frustration, stating that Musiala had just returned from another injury. Kompany acknowledged how much Musiala loves football and said the injury is a significant setback for him. Despite the setback, Kompany hopes Musiala will recover and return stronger. Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, also commented that the injury "didn't look good".

Musiala's injury is a significant blow for Bayern Munich. He is a key player known for his dribbling, passing, and finishing. His absence will force the team to reshuffle its attack and rely on other players. There is also a discussion if Bayern should consider keeping Thomas Muller after Musiala's injury.

Manuel Neuer criticized Donnarumma's tackle that caused Musiala's injury. Neuer felt Donnarumma took an unnecessary risk and showed a lack of respect.

Given the estimated recovery timeline of four to five months, Musiala is likely to miss the beginning of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season and key Champions League group stage matches.
