Indian boxers showcased their prowess at the World Boxing Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan 2025, securing a total of 11 medals. The women pugilists led the charge, with Sakshi (54kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), and Nupur (80+kg) clinching gold medals in their respective weight categories. This impressive performance marks India's best-ever medal haul at the World Boxing Cup, surpassing their previous tally of six medals from the Brazil leg in April.

Sakshi initiated India's golden run with a dominant display against Yoseline Perez of the USA in the women's 54kg final. Her attacking style, characterized by speed and well-executed combination punches, earned her a unanimous decision from the judges. Jaismine Lamboria, a Paris 2024 Olympian, added another gold to India's tally by defeating Brazil's Jucielen Cequeira Romeu 4-1 in the women's 57kg final. The 23-year-old used her reach to her advantage, particularly in the final round, landing effective counter punches to secure the win. Nupur completed the gold medal sweep for India, overcoming a tough challenge from local favorite Yeldana Talipova to win the 80+kg final with a 5-0 verdict. After losing the opening round, Nupur demonstrated resilience and skill, dominating the next two rounds with superior footwork and sharper attacks.

In addition to the gold medalists, several other Indian boxers made their mark at the World Boxing Cup. Meenakshi (48kg), Jugnoo (85kg), Pooja Rani (80kg), Hitesh Gulia (70kg), and Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) secured silver medals after reaching their respective finals. Meenakshi fought hard against Kazakhstan's Nazym Kyzaibay but lost by a narrow 3-2 margin. Jugnoo lost to Bekzad Nurdauletov of Kazakhstan, while Pooja Rani was defeated by Australia's Eseta Flint. Hitesh Gulia lost to Brazil's Kaian Oliveira, and Abhinash Jamwal fell short against Yuri Falcao. Sanju (60kg), Nikhil Dubey (75kg), and Narender Berwal (90+kg) each earned a bronze medal, further contributing to India's impressive medal count.

The Indian contingent's success at the World Boxing Cup – Astana 2025 is a testament to the growing strength of boxing in India. The medals won at this event also provide crucial ranking points for the boxers. With the World Boxing Cup Finals scheduled to be held in New Delhi in November 2025, the Indian boxers will look to continue their strong performances and aim for further glory on home soil.
