Leicester City are reportedly considering Marti Cifuentes, former QPR head coach, as a strong candidate for their vacant managerial position. Despite this interest, Queens Park Rangers are yet to receive any contact regarding Cifuentes.

Cifuentes left QPR at the end of June 2025 after a period that was "broadly successful but fractious". He successfully kept the club in the Championship during the 2023-24 season, although their performance tailed off last season. QPR have moved on and are expected to appoint Julien Stephan, former Strasbourg coach, as their new manager.

One of the terms of the separation agreement between QPR and Cifuentes stipulates that any compensation for his services is only payable by another club or national federation.

Leicester City have been searching for a new manager after their relegation from the Premier League led to Ruud van Nistelrooy's departure this summer. Other contenders for the job have been under consideration, including Bo Svensson, Chris Wilder, and Gary O'Neil, with the club reportedly holding discussions with all of them. Recent reports suggest Chris Wilder and Marti Cifuentes are the final two in consideration.

Marti Cifuentes and his assistant Xavi Calm signed new contracts with QPR in September 2024. Cifuentes expressed his happiness at the time, stating that he was enjoying the process and aware of the club's potential. He also praised the supporters, owners, and staff for their incredible support. Cifuentes highlighted the importance of building strong relationships with CEO Christian Nourry and the supporters.

Prior to his departure, reports surfaced in April 2025 suggesting that Cifuentes was considering leaving QPR due to a breakdown in his relationship with CEO Christian Nourry. Frustrations reportedly stemmed from the club's direction under Nourry, particularly regarding recruitment. Cifuentes was also said to be unhappy with the handling of injuries and the decision to allow the director of performance to work remotely. After a loss to Swansea City in April 2025, Cifuentes publicly stated that he needed assurances about the club's ambition to progress.

Cifuentes joined QPR in November 2023, succeeding Gareth Ainsworth. QPR were in a difficult position, languishing near the bottom of the Championship table. His immediate goal was to prevent relegation. QPR CEO Lee Hoos expressed his delight at Cifuentes' appointment, highlighting his awareness of Cifuentes and the succession plan in place.
