Animesh Kujur has etched his name in Indian athletic history by becoming the first Indian sprinter to compete in the Diamond League. This achievement follows Kujur's record-breaking performance at the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting in Greece, where he clocked an impressive 10.18 seconds in the 100m race.

At the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting 2025 in Vari, Greece, Kujur not only won Final B but also set a new national record in the men's 100m, making him the first Indian to run the distance in under 10.2 seconds. The 22-year-old's time of 10.18 seconds broke the previous national record of 10.20 seconds, set by Gurindervir Singh. In the overall standings, Kujur secured third place, finishing behind Benjamin Richardson of South Africa (10.01 seconds) and Ali Anwar Al-Balushi of Oman (10.12 seconds). Kujur's performance also marked a personal best, improving upon his previous mark of 10.27 seconds by 0.09 seconds.

Prior to his 100m record, Kujur had already established himself as a prominent figure in Indian athletics. He holds the national record in the men's 200m with a time of 20.32 seconds, which he achieved at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, Republic of Korea. At the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, he also won a bronze medal in the 200m. Furthermore, Kujur was part of the record-setting Indian men's 4x100m relay team that clocked 38.69 seconds at the National Relay Carnival 2025 in Chandigarh.

Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai congratulated Animesh Kujur on his achievement, remarking that his historic performance would inspire the youth to move forward in sports.

Kujur's accomplishments signify a significant leap for Indian sprinting and highlight the growing potential of Indian athletes on the global stage.
