Washington Sundar's Confidence: India Poised for Lord's Victory on Day 5, Driven by Belief

Riding on a brilliant bowling performance, India has a chance to win the third Test against England at Lord's, but a late batting collapse has added a dramatic twist to the tale. Washington Sundar, who starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 22 runs, exuded confidence in India's chances of winning on the final day.

At the end of the fourth day, India stands at 58 for 4, needing another 135 runs to win the Test and potentially take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. England, after being bundled out for 192 in their second innings, fought back strongly, leaving the match evenly poised.

Sundar's exceptional bowling spell was instrumental in India's initial dominance on Day 4. He picked up the crucial wickets of Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Ben Stokes, stifling England's middle and lower order. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj also chipped in with important wickets, ensuring England's innings didn't spiral out of control.

Despite Sundar's optimism, India's top-order faltered in the final session of the day. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck, Karun Nair scored 14, and captain Shubman Gill managed only 6. The late dismissal of nightwatchman Akash Deep further added to India's woes, leaving KL Rahul unbeaten on 33 at the end of the day.

Speaking to Sky Sports at the close of play, Sundar stated, "Definitely, India (are) winning tomorrow. Probably just after Lunch". He acknowledged that losing one less wicket by stumps would have been ideal, but praised the Indian fast bowlers for maintaining pressure throughout the day. Sundar also highlighted the assistance the pitch offered, particularly with the hard ball, and the effectiveness of the Indian spinners. "The way both of us bowled today was very heartening - myself and Jadeja. The plan was not to give out too many runs because the fast bowlers are always going to be in the play,” he added.

Sundar emphasized the importance of Jasprit Bumrah's presence, noting how it helped in applying pressure on England's captain, Ben Stokes. He said he had clear plans for the Test match and wanted to contribute differently in different passages of play.

Despite the setbacks faced towards the end of day 4, Sundar remains confident because the team has solid batters remaining in the dressing room. India's chase began poorly with Jofra Archer removing Yashasvi Jaiswal early. KL Rahul and Karun Nair attempted to rebuild, but Brydon Carse's two wickets in quick succession further dented India's progress. Ben Stokes then removed Akash Deep with the last ball of the day.

The match is intriguingly poised, with India needing 135 runs and England requiring 6 wickets to secure a victory. KL Rahul's role is crucial for India, while England will be looking to capitalize on the momentum gained in the final session of Day 4. The final day promises a thrilling contest at Lord's.
