Italy has secured a spot in the UEFA Women's EURO semi-finals for the first time in 28 years, after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Norway. Cristiana Girelli's late goal sealed the win in Wednesday's quarter-final match. The match, held in Geneva, saw Italy progress to the final four for the first time since 1997.

The game remained goalless in the first half, but the second half saw plenty of action. Girelli broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, converting from close range after a dangerous ball from Sofia Cantore. Italy nearly extended their lead shortly after, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Norway had a chance to equalize in the 58th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a foul on Ada Hegerberg. However, Hegerberg missed the spot-kick, sending her shot wide of the post. Hegerberg compensated for her miss in the 66th minute, latching onto a through ball from Maren Mjelde and firing home to level the score. Just as the game looked to be heading for extra time, Girelli scored again in the 90th minute with a header, securing Italy's place in the semi-finals.

Italy's journey to the semi-final has been impressive, although not without its challenges. In the group stage, they secured a win against Belgium (1-0) and a draw against Portugal (1-1), but they lost to Spain (1-3). Before the tournament, Italy was considered a potential dark horse, and they have lived up to the expectations by reaching their first semi-final in 28 years.

Cristiana Girelli's performance was crucial to Italy's victory. Her two goals, including the late winner, earned her high praise. After the game, Girelli expressed her joy and pride in the team's achievement.

Italy will face either England or Sweden in the semi-final on July 22. England and Sweden will play their quarter-final match to determine who will face Italy. Italy's coach will be preparing the team for a tough challenge against either opponent.

Norway, despite being a two-time champion, has fallen short of expectations in the tournament. Ada Hegerberg's penalty miss proved costly, and the team was unable to capitalize on their chances. The team will be disappointed with their performance, as they were hoping to make a strong run in the tournament.

The UEFA Women's EURO 2025 has already seen several exciting matches and memorable moments. Reigning world champions Spain have been dominant, scoring five goals in their opening two games. Switzerland, the host nation, has also reached the quarter-finals for the first time. Other quarter-final matches include Spain vs Switzerland and France vs Germany. The final will be held on July 27.
