Jamshedpur FC started their Durand Cup 2025 campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nepal's Tribhuvan Army FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. The match, held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, saw Jamshedpur FC, also known as the Men of Steel, edge past their opponents in a nervy contest.

The Indian Super League (ISL) side, Jamshedpur FC, began their campaign on a winning note in front of a packed Furnace. Nikhil Barla's second-half goal proved to be the decisive factor, helping the Red Miners secure the victory against the Nepali team.

Jamshedpur FC showcased five debutants in their starting XI, demonstrating a blend of new talent and experienced players. The squad was strengthened with both seasoned Indian campaigners and emerging talents, aiming for a strong showing in the prestigious tournament after a disappointing group stage exit the previous year.

Experienced goalkeeper Albino Gomes emphasized the importance of the Durand Cup and its legacy. He highlighted the fans' expectations and the team's desire to set the right tone from the beginning. Gomes also stressed his role in bringing focus and composure to the team's defense.

Tribhuvan Army FC, a prominent club from Nepal, returned to the Durand Cup with prior experience. Last season, they managed a win in the group stages but were unable to progress to the knockout rounds. Determined to make a significant impact this time, they came prepared to give their best.

The match was broadcasted live on the Sony Sports Network and streamed on SonyLIV.

The Durand Cup 2025 features 24 teams divided into six groups of four. The top team from each group will directly advance to the knockout stage, along with the two best-performing runners-up. Jamshedpur FC is placed in Group C, alongside Tribhuvan Army FT, Indian Army FT, and 1 Ladakh FC. Tribhuvan Army FC will face 1 Ladakh FC on August 2 and Indian Army on August 5.

Jamshedpur FC's squad for the Durand Cup 2025 includes a mix of goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards, with Pronay Halder and Rei Tachikawa leading the team. New signings like Nishu Kumar, Sarthak Golui, and Jestin George have bolstered the defense, while Germanpreet Singh and Vincy Barretto have added depth to the midfield.

The Durand Cup is Asia's oldest football tournament, with the 2025 edition being the 134th. It is organized by the Indian Armed Forces and serves as the traditional curtain-raiser for the Indian domestic football season. Mohun Bagan SG, the reigning Indian Super League champions, holds the record for the most Durand Cup titles with 17 wins, followed by East Bengal with 16 titles. NorthEast United FC are the current Durand Cup champions.

In the opening match of the Durand Cup 2025, East Bengal FC dominated South United FC with a 5-0 victory.
