Kuldeep Yadav's Snub: India's Bowling Coach Explains Why the World-Class Bowler Is Not Selected.

The ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series between India and England has sparked considerable debate, particularly regarding the exclusion of Kuldeep Yadav from the Indian squad. Despite being considered a "world-class" bowler, the left-arm wrist-spinner has yet to feature in a single game, raising questions about the team's selection strategy.

India's bowling coach, Morne Morkel, has finally addressed the situation, acknowledging Kuldeep's talent but highlighting the team's need for balance. Morkel explained that the team management is trying to find the right moment to include Kuldeep in the lineup, but they are struggling to balance the batting order. The concern is that bringing Kuldeep in might lengthen the batting lineup. Morkel admitted that the team has struggled with losing wickets in clusters in the past, and the team is trying its best to find ways for him to get in. However, he said that balancing it with batting is proving difficult.

This explanation comes amidst growing criticism of India's apparent preference for batting all-rounders, even at the expense of a specialist spinner. Ravichandran Ashwin, has openly criticized Gautam Gambhir, questioning the logic behind selecting an all-rounder like Shardul Thakur, who had a minimal impact with the ball in the fourth Test at Manchester. Ashwin argued that India missed a trick by benching Kuldeep Yadav. He also wondered why the team didn’t back an attacking option when they had already picked batting all-rounders in Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja.

Kuldeep's childhood coach, Kapil Pandey, has also voiced his disappointment, stating that not playing Kuldeep at the right moments has cost India. Pandey emphasized Kuldeep's impressive form, particularly his performance in the recent ODI World Cup. He argued that expecting Kuldeep or Bumrah to score 100 runs is unrealistic and that their primary role is to take wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav's career has been marked by impressive achievements. He made an impact early on, taking 17 wickets in three games of the 2017 Duleep Trophy. His international debut came in 2017 against Australia, where he took four wickets in the Test match. He even recorded a hat-trick in a T20I against Australia. Kuldeep played a key role for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, claiming 15 wickets. In his IPL career, Kuldeep has played 98 matches and is known for his ability to confuse hitters with his spin.

Despite his proven ability and recent form, Kuldeep has found himself on the sidelines. This has led to speculation and disappointment among fans and cricket experts alike. Some fans are frustrated that India trusts Anshul Kamboj and Shardul Thakur more than Kuldeep Yadav. Some have even suggested that Kuldeep should have been picked ahead of Shardul Thakur.

As the series progresses, it remains to be seen whether Kuldeep Yadav will get an opportunity to showcase his skills. The Indian team management faces the challenge of finding the right balance and utilizing its resources effectively. While the focus on batting depth is understandable, the value of a "world-class" spinner like Kuldeep Yadav cannot be ignored.
