Clara Tauson continued her impressive run at the WTA Canadian Open, dispatching Madison Keys in straight sets to advance to the semi-finals. The Danish player, seeded 16th, showcased dominant form, defeating Keys 6-1, 6-4 in a match that lasted just over an hour.

Tauson's victory was built on a strong performance on her second serve, winning 12 of 19 points. She also capitalized on Keys' errors, including a crucial double fault that handed Tauson a break to start the second set. This win marks Tauson's fourth career WTA title after previous victories at the 2021 Lyon and Luxembourg Opens, and the 2025 Auckland Open.

Tauson's path to the semi-finals included a notable upset over Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek in the fourth round. This victory was particularly sweet for Tauson, who had lost to Swiatek at Wimbledon just a month prior. Tauson acknowledged the significance of the win, stating, "I think getting a win against her after losing to her in Wimbledon is nice, because I was not feeling great in that match, and I felt like I was playing some good tennis in Wimbledon." She added, "I felt like if I could keep that going, I thought I had a shot. It's really nice to sit here now."

The 22-year-old Tauson has been making waves on the WTA tour. She achieved her highest ranking of world No. 19 on July 14, 2025. Her recent successes include reaching the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships and winning her third WTA title at the Auckland Open. Tauson's best Grand Slam result came in 2024 when she reached the fourth round at Roland Garros.

Tauson's semi-final opponent will be the winner of the match between Naomi Osaka and Elina Svitolina. Tauson's record against Svitolina is 2-0, with wins in Portugal in 2023 and Dubai earlier this year. Her only encounter with Osaka resulted in Osaka retiring after Tauson won the first set of the Auckland Open final.

Keys, the reigning Australian Open champion, entered the Canadian Open as the sixth seed. Her route to the quarter-finals was challenging, requiring her to come back from a set down in both the third and fourth rounds to defeat Caty McNally and Karolina Muchova. Keys had also saved two match points against Muchova. Despite her aggressive playing style and powerful forehand, she couldn't disrupt Tauson's rhythm.

Tauson's performance at the Canadian Open underscores her potential as a rising star in tennis. After the win against Swiatek, Tauson stated, "I think it's really important to get these kinds of matches on this high level, especially back-to-back,". She added, "Then you can really see if you can maintain the level...I think I showed this year that I can maintain the level, but obviously it's going to be a super tough match against Madison. She's playing some great tennis. Yeah, she always has great fire."

Clara Tauson's current WTA ranking is 19. She has accumulated $1,475,935 in prize money. Her career record stands at 28 wins and 15 losses.
