A recent video posted by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Instagram has captured the camaraderie between captain Shreyas Iyer and teammate Shashank Singh, showcasing a lighthearted Super Over challenge at Iyer's apartment. The interaction included Iyer playfully comparing Singh to England's Chris Woakes, sparking laughter and highlighting their strong bond.

The Super Over challenge recreated the intensity of a match day in a friendly setting. As Singh prepared to bowl a short delivery, Iyer cheekily asked, "Woakes hai kya tu?" which translates to "Are you Woakes?". This comment, referencing the English fast bowler Chris Woakes, was in response to the field settings being discussed, and it drew a humorous reaction from Singh as the banter continued.

Iyer and Singh have developed a strong relationship since joining the Punjab Kings franchise. Singh was retained by the team before the 2025 season, while Iyer was acquired from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Iyer's leadership proved to be a valuable asset, as he guided Punjab Kings to their first IPL final in over a decade.

In the shared video, the two cricketers also engaged in discussions about field placements. Before Singh bowled the first ball, Iyer inquired about the field, asking, "Field kya hai tera? 7-3?" which means, "What's your field? 7-3?". Singh responded by outlining the leg-side field, "Deep square leg, short mid-wicket, mid-on, Fine leg nahin hai," translating to "Deep square leg, short mid-wicket, mid-on, no fine leg".

Despite ultimately falling short by six runs in a closely contested title clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the team's performance under Iyer's captaincy was widely praised. Iyer had an exceptional season, amassing 604 runs in 17 innings with an impressive average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07. His contributions with the bat included six half-centuries and six sixes, demonstrating his consistency and aggressive approach.

Shashank Singh also played a crucial role for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 season. He scored an unbeaten 61 in the final, although PBKS lost by six runs. It was also noted that Singh and Iyer would likely be retained for the next edition of the IPL.

The Punjab Kings owners had spent ₹26.75 to acquire Iyer and appoint him as captain for the season. While the team narrowly missed out on the IPL title, reaching the final marked a significant achievement for the franchise.
