World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka survived a grueling three-hour and nine-minute battle against Emma Raducanu in the third round of the Cincinnati Open, ultimately prevailing 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(5). The match, a clash between two US Open champions, saw momentum swing wildly, with both players showcasing resilience and determination.

Raducanu started strong, racing to a 2-0 lead in the opening set before Sabalenka found her rhythm and won four consecutive games. Raducanu broke back to level the score, but Sabalenka ultimately took the first set in a tie-break. The Briton, however, bounced back in the second set, finding excellent rhythm on her serve and putting pressure on Sabalenka. Raducanu landed 82% of her first serves and won 75% behind them, also displaying an improved return game.

The third set was a tense affair, with both players holding serve until a monumental game at 3-4. Raducanu saved four break points and navigated 13 deuces to hold serve after a 23-minute game. Ultimately, the set went to another tie-break, where Sabalenka edged ahead to secure the victory. Despite the loss, Raducanu's performance was one of the most impressive of her career, proving she has the quality to challenge the world's best. Sabalenka, while not at her peak, demonstrated her competitive spirit and ability to win even when struggling with her form, overcoming 72 unforced errors. This victory improves Sabalenka's record against Raducanu to 3-0.

Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz overcame Lorenzo Sonego in his third round match. The match was temporarily halted due to a power outage after Fritz won the first set 7-6(4). Play was suspended for 75 minutes before resuming. Fritz ultimately won the match, becoming the only player to reach the fourth round at all four ATP Masters 1000 hard-court events this year.

Other notable results from the Cincinnati Open include Holger Rune's victory over Alex Michelsen. Rune will face Frances Tiafoe in the next round. Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced after Arthur Rinderknech retired due to injury.
