Djed Spence has signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur, marking a significant turnaround in his career with the club. The 25-year-old full-back, who initially joined Spurs in July 2022, has been rewarded for his impressive breakthrough into the first team during the 2024-25 season.

Spence's journey at Tottenham has been eventful. After signing with the club, he was sent out on loan to Rennes, Leeds United and Genoa. It wasn't until Ange Postecoglou took charge that Spence finally got his chance to shine. He made 35 appearances in all competitions last season, playing a key role in Tottenham's Europa League triumph. He demonstrated his versatility by playing on both the right and left flanks, filling in at left-back when Destiny Udogie was injured.

His consistent performances and contribution to the team have earned him this new contract, which includes improved terms. This new deal comes less than a year after he signed a four-year contract extension in October, highlighting the club's faith in his future.

Under the new management of Thomas Frank, Spence continues to be a key part of the squad. Frank showed his trust in Spence by starting him in the recent Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the loss on penalties, Spence's performance demonstrated his importance to the team.

Spence's ability to break into the first team was not guaranteed. Former Tottenham boss Antonio Conte initially saw him as a "club signing," and he faced uncertainty about his future at the club. There was a possibility he might have left Spurs in the summer of 2024, but he managed to force his way into Postecoglou's plans and prove his worth.

Looking ahead, Spence's new contract secures his long-term future at Tottenham. With injuries to key players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, the club is looking to strengthen its attacking midfield options.
