Edmonton Oilers prospect Quinn Hutson has been invited to the 2025 NHLPA Rookie Showcase, which will be held on September 3rd at the Washington Capitals' practice facility in Arlington. Hutson will be the lone representative from the Oilers at the annual event.

The NHLPA Rookie Showcase is an annual event that allows NHL teams to show off their up-and-coming talent. Upper Deck hosts the event to obtain photos and promotional clips of the players for hockey cards and other promotional materials. Thirty players are chosen to participate, with most teams sending one player. Last year, Olivier Rodrigue represented the Oilers, and Xavier Bourgault represented them in 2023.

Hutson, a 23-year-old right winger, recently signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Oilers after his college career at Boston University. Undrafted, he was a highly sought-after free agent following an impressive NCAA career. In his final season at Boston University, Hutson led the team in scoring with 50 points (23 goals and 27 assists) in 38 games. He was also named to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team and a New England Division I All-Star.

Prior to joining Boston University, Hutson played two seasons in the USHL for the Muskegon Lumberjacks, where he earned Second Team All-USHL honors in 2022. In his final season with the Lumberjacks, he led the team in goals (33), assists (40), and points (73).

Hutson's invitation to the Rookie Showcase provides him with an opportunity to gain media exposure, as he will have the chance to be interviewed and photographed in Oilers gear. Despite being a somewhat surprising pick, as other prospects like Tommy Lafreniere, David Lewandowski, Viljami Marjala, Beau Akey, Josh Samanski, Ike Howard, and Matt Savoie could have been chosen, Hutson's performance warranted the selection. He was given a two-game stint with the Oilers at the end of the regular season, marking his NHL debut.

Standing at 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, Hutson is considered slightly undersized but is known for his skilled game. Scouts highlight his puck-handling, agility, and shooting accuracy. He plays with pace, possesses a good shot, and is an excellent passer. While he may need some time in the AHL to develop his strength and adapt to the professional game, his offensive abilities and hockey sense could make him a valuable depth scorer for the Oilers in the future.

Notably, Quinn is the older brother of Lane Hutson, a standout defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens and the 2024-25 Calder Trophy winner.
