Hong Kong Open Golf: Lam and D’Souza Secure Coveted Local Qualifier Positions for Prestigious Tournament

Isaac Lam and Leon D'Souza have secured their spots in the upcoming Hong Kong Open golf tournament after a local qualifier. Their success highlights the growing talent within the Hong Kong golfing scene and adds to the excitement surrounding the prestigious event.

D'Souza qualified via his position on the Hong Kong PGA Order of Merit. D'Souza exuded confidence, embracing the comfort of playing on familiar turf. He stated he was looking forward to playing somewhere he's comfortable. D'Souza believes his game is good enough to contend in the tournament and that all the players are trying to do their best. D'Souza has ambitions to earn full status on the Asian Tour, and a good performance at the Hong Kong Open could help him achieve that goal. He is also scheduled to play final stage (Q School) next month.

Several other local players will also be participating in the Hong Kong Open. Taichi Kho, the winner of the World City Championship last year and an Asian Games gold medalist, is a prominent figure. Michael Regan Wong booked his place through a two-round qualifier. The amateur contingent includes Wang Ngai Shen, Isaac Lee, Alexander Yang, and Timothy Chan. These young players are eager to leverage their knowledge of the home course and make a significant impact.

Michael Regan Wong, a Trainee PGA Professional at the Hong Kong Golf Club, secured his spot in the tournament through a qualifier. Wong emphasized the importance of enjoying the experience and having fun, while also acknowledging the presence of great players and the amazing golf course. Wong is also relying on the support of his caddie, fellow HKGC pro Steven Lam.

The Link Hong Kong Open 2024, is set to be a spectacle of golfing prowess and personal journeys. The local lineup is eager to compete alongside major champions, LIV Golf League figures, and Asian Tour stars.
