In aSuper Four match of the Asia Cup 2025, India defeated Sri Lanka in a Super Over after Pathum Nissanka's century took the game to a tie. India has therefore advanced to the final undefeated.
India batted first and scored 202/5, with Abhishek Sharma hitting a 31-ball 61. In response, Sri Lanka also ended their innings at 202/5, thanks to Pathum Nissanka's magnificent century. In the Super Over, Arshdeep Singh restricted Sri Lanka to just two runs, which India chased down on the first ball.
India's innings was off to a good start, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 61 off 31 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. Sanju Samson (39) and Tilak Varma eased India's worries with a 66-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Axar Patel also contributed with a 15-ball 21. Each of the Sri Lankan bowlers, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dasun Shanaka, and Charith Asalanka took one wicket.
Sri Lanka's chase was driven by Pathum Nissanka’s century. Kusal Perera also scored 58. Hardik Pandya gave India an early breakthrough by dismissing Kusal Mendis for a duck. Varun Chakaravarthy broke the 127-run partnership between Perera and Nissanka by dismissing Perera. Nissanka was later dismissed by Harshit Rana in the final over.
The final over saw Sri Lanka needing 12 runs to win. Nissanka was caught at short fine leg on the first ball of the over. With Sri Lanka needing three runs to win on the final ball, Dasun Shanaka could only manage two, resulting in a tie and forcing a Super Over.
Arshdeep Singh bowled a brilliant Super Over, conceding just two runs and taking two wickets. Suryakumar Yadav then hit the winning run on the first ball of India's Super Over, securing the victory for India.
