Australia ODI squad for India series: Starc back, Renshaw gets another chance at international level.

Australia has announced its squads for the upcoming series against India, with Mitchell Starc returning to the ODI squad and Matthew Renshaw earning an international lifeline with a recall to the ODI team. The squads are for three ODI matches starting on October 19 and the first two T20Is.

Mitchell Starc's Return

Mitchell Starc is set to make his first international appearance of the summer after being rested since the West Indies Test tour, where his workload was managed ahead of the Ashes. Starc, who retired from T20Is last month, also sat out August's Top End series against South Africa. He last played an ODI in November 2024 against Pakistan.

Matthew Renshaw's Opportunity

Matthew Renshaw has been recalled to the ODI squad. The left-handed batter was previously called into the ODI squad in 2022 for the Pakistan series but didn't debut. He has been in good form, scoring 305 one-day runs at an average of 50 for Queensland last season. He also performed well for Australia A against Sri Lanka A in July, with scores of 80, 106, and 62.

Squad Details and Other Inclusions

The 15-man ODI squad includes Starc, Renshaw, Matt Short, and Mitch Owen. Short and Owen were initially selected for the South Africa series but were unable to participate due to injury. Owen suffered a concussion during the T20 series, while Short was recovering from a rib cartilage fracture.

ODI Squad: Mitchell Marsh (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Short, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa.

T20I Squad (first two games): Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.

Players Missing Out

Marnus Labuschagne has been left out of the ODI squad. Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth to play in the Sheffield Shield match for Queensland. Glenn Maxwell is still recovering from a wrist fracture sustained during the tour of New Zealand. Cameron Green will prepare for the Test summer with Western Australia after the ODI leg of the India series.

Looking Ahead

These squad changes signal the beginning of a rebuilding phase for Australia's ODI side as they prepare for the 2027 World Cup. This follows the recent retirements of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis. Renshaw is likely to play an accumulating role, while Owen could take on the power-hitting finishing role.
