Hong Kong Open sees fresh talent emerge: Leylah Fernandez headlines replacements after withdrawals shake up the field.

The Prudential Hong Kong Open has announced the addition of four new players to its roster, including former champion Leylah Fernandez, following the withdrawal of several high-profile players. The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 27 to November 2, 2025, at Victoria Park.

Leylah Fernandez, the 2023 champion, will be joined by Belinda Bencic, the Tokyo Olympic singles champion, Sofia Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open winner, and Greek star Maria Sakkari.

Earlier in the week, Emma Raducanu and Naomi Osaka both withdrew from the competition. The organizers confirmed the new additions on Saturday.

Bencic expressed her excitement about participating in the tournament, stating, "I am very much looking forward to coming to Hong Kong to play my last tournament of the 2025 season. I have heard amazing things about the city and the event, and cannot wait to experience it for the first time". In January, Bencic won her ninth WTA singles title at the Abu Dhabi Open.

The tournament, a WTA 250 event, will feature 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams competing for 250 points in the standings and the Hong Kong Open title. The tournament has a long history, with the first edition held in 1980. It returned to the calendar in 2014 after a two-decade break and has since become an important part of the Asian Swing.

The addition of Fernandez, Bencic, Kenin, and Sakkari promises an exciting competition at the Hong Kong Open 2025. The tournament will be the 12th edition and is part of the WTA 250 tournaments on the 2025 WTA Tour.
