KL Rahul has been named to lead India's ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa, starting on November 30. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad on November 23, 2025.
Rahul steps in as captain in the absence of Shubman Gill, who is recovering from a neck injury sustained during the first Test against South Africa. The 26-year-old Gill was injured on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test and has been undergoing medical assessment in Mumbai. Shreyas Iyer is also unavailable due to a spleen injury he sustained during the ODI series against Australia.
The squad sees the return of Ravindra Jadeja, who was not picked for the ODI series against Australia. Jadeja's recall comes after a period of speculation surrounding his place in the ODI format. Ruturaj Gaikwad also makes a comeback to the ODI squad. Gaikwad impressed in the India A series against South Africa A, scoring 210 runs in three matches at an average of 105.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to return to the ODI squad after missing the Australia series. Rishabh Pant has also been included in the ODI squad.
The ODI series begins on November 30 in Ranchi, followed by matches in Raipur on December 3 and Visakhapatnam on December 6.
