A Virginia high school football coach, who was reported missing last week, is now wanted by state police on criminal charges. Travis L. Turner, 46, the head football coach at Union High School in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, is being sought on charges related to child pornography.
Turner was reported missing after police visited his home as part of an investigation. He was last seen on Thursday, and officially listed as a missing person on Friday. According to the Virginia State Police, warrants were obtained on Monday for Turner, who is charged with five counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor. Additional charges are pending.
The investigation began before Turner's disappearance. Authorities visited Turner's home as part of the investigation but learned he was no longer there. A search was conducted in the nearby area, involving drones, dogs, and rescue teams. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and glasses.
Turner has been the head football coach at Union High School since 2011. His team, the Union High School Bears, has had an undefeated season. News of the charges comes just days before the team's playoff game.
Wise County Public Schools confirmed that a staff member had been placed on paid leave pending an external investigation but did not directly name Turner.
