PIRAEUS, Greece – In a stunning display of attacking prowess, Kylian Mbappé etched his name into Champions League history, netting the second-fastest hat-trick in the competition's history during Real Madrid's thrilling 4-3 victory against Olympiacos. The French superstar's lightning-quick treble came in a mere six minutes and 42 seconds, falling just short of Mohamed Salah's record of six minutes and 12 seconds set in 2022.
Olympiacos took an early lead in the 8th minute through Chiquinho, but Mbappé responded emphatically, kickstarting his historic performance in the 22nd minute. The Real Madrid talisman then found the net again in the 24th minute, followed by his third goal in the 29th minute, completing the hat-trick in a breathtaking span.
Mbappé's goal-scoring exploits didn't end there, as he added a fourth goal to his tally, marking the first time he has scored four goals in a Champions League match. Despite fine headers from Mehdi Taremi and Ayoub El Kaabi, Mbappé's four goals proved decisive, securing a 4-3 victory for Real Madrid.
"I'm very happy to have scored the goals, it's always a pleasure for me," Mbappé said. "My teammates always set me up with good balls. I'm lucky to play for this team that has so much quality," he added.
This was Mbappé's fifth Champions League hat-trick and his second of the 2025-2026 season, with his first of the season coming against Kairat Almaty. With this achievement, Mbappé now has five hat-tricks in the Champions League throughout his career playing for Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have more Champions League hat-tricks with eight each, followed by Robert Lewandowski with six.
Mbappé now sits atop the Champions League scoring charts this season with nine goals, surpassing Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray. This is already Mbappé's best Champions League goal tally in a single season. The 26-year-old has an impressive 22 goals in 18 matches for Real Madrid this season.
Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso praised Mbappé's natural talent and the intangibles he brings to the team. "His goals are crucial, it's a natural talent that he has, but that's not all. His personality, teamwork, unity... it's all among the intangibles that he brings," said Alonso.
The victory against Olympiacos ended Real Madrid's three-game winless run in all competitions and propelled them to fifth place in the Champions League league-phase standings.
