Artemi Panarin's stellar performance, featuring a goal and three assists, propelled the New York Rangers to a decisive 6-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Friday. The Rangers, showcasing their offensive depth, scored two goals in each period, maintaining control throughout the game.
Mika Zibanejad contributed significantly with two power-play goals scored within a mere 45-second span in the second period, extending the Rangers' lead to a comfortable 4-0. Carson Soucy and Vladislav Gavrikov also added to the scoresheet, while Alexis Lafreniere sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Adam Fox tallied three assists, and Vincent Trocheck had two. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin made 19 saves, securing the Rangers' third consecutive win.
The Rangers initiated the scoring early in the first period when Panarin capitalized on a neutral-zone turnover, converting Will Cuylle's cross-ice pass into a wrist shot goal. Their momentum continued as Soucy doubled the lead, banking a shot off the left boards and into the net.
Boston, playing without key forwards David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha due to injuries, struggled to match the Rangers' intensity. Morgan Geekie scored his 18th goal for the Bruins, and Casey Mittelstadt, returning after a nine-game absence, also found the net. Joonas Korpisalo made 30 saves for Boston.
The Rangers' improved their away record to 11-4-1. The Bruins were without David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha, with coach Marco Sturm saying both players are day to day.
Looking ahead, the Rangers are set to host the Tampa Bay Lightning, while the Bruins will host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.
