Mikel Arteta has expressed his belief that Declan Rice still has more to offer Arsenal, despite the midfielder's already impressive performances. Ahead of Sunday's match against Chelsea, Arteta highlighted Rice's growing influence on the team.

Arteta acknowledged the significance of the midfield battle against Chelsea, particularly against Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. All three players were signed for substantial fees and are considered among the Premier League's best this season. Rice himself voted for Caicedo in his 2024-25 team of the year. Despite the external comparisons, Arteta is confident that Rice can reach an even higher level.

"Probably a year or two ago, yes, but now being with him every single day, understanding and connecting with him in the way I have done, we are going to get more,” Arteta said when asked if this is the best version of Rice. "Because he wants more, the team knows him better, his role is growing around the team. The impact he has on the team, it's huge".

Arteta emphasized that Rice's desire for continuous improvement and the team's growing understanding of him will contribute to his further development. He also noted the significant impact Rice has on the team. "I knew him for a long time (before signing) and I knew how he could evolve and change the team," Arteta stated. "He has certainly done it and probably improved on those expectations".

While Rice excelled in a deeper, defensive role at West Ham, Arteta has successfully unlocked new dimensions to his game by deploying him in a more advanced midfield position. Arteta disagreed with Rice's assessment that his position has changed this season, clarifying that his position has evolved and that he is becoming a total player. According to Arteta, a total player should be able to do many things, which Rice has the capacity to do.
