The resounding win, fueled by a Georgia Stanway hat-trick, marked a triumphant return to the national stadium and a significant milestone for manager Sarina Wiegman, securing her 50th win in charge.
The Lionesses wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Beth Mead scoring twice in the opening 14 minutes. Mead's first goal came after 12 minutes, courtesy of a Lucy Bronze assist, followed quickly by a second from an Ella Toone cross. Lauren Hemp further extended England's lead just two minutes later, assisted by Stanway, making it 3-0.
Georgia Stanway then took center stage, scoring her first goal after a China goalkeeper error, followed by a penalty awarded after a VAR review. Stanway completed her hat-trick in the 52nd minute, capping off a brilliant team move. Ella Toone added a seventh goal, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up, before Alessia Russo finished the scoring, converting a pass from Toone.
This dominant performance was England's first match at Wembley since successfully defending their title at Euro 2025 in Switzerland. The match was the third in England's four-game Homecoming Series, celebrating their victorious summer with fans. England previously lost to Brazil and won against Australia in the series. Stanway expressed her delight after the match, stating, "I think the most important thing was that we started fast today". She also mentioned being happy that her family was present. Stanway is only the third Lioness to score a hat-trick at Wembley, after Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones. She has scored all 13 of her penalties for England.
The attendance at Wembley was confirmed at 74,611. This win marks a record victory for the Lionesses at Wembley Stadium, surpassing their previous 6-0 win over Portugal.
