Sirens Soar to 5-1 Victory Over Goldeneyes, Fueled by Diverse Scoring
NEWARK, NJ (November 29, 2025) – The New York Sirens delivered a commanding performance in their home opener, defeating the Vancouver Goldeneyes by a score of 5-1. Five different players found the back of the net for the Sirens, showcasing the team's depth and offensive capabilities. A strong performance by goaltender Kayle Osborne, who made 20 saves, further solidified the victory for the Sirens.
The Sirens jumped out to an early lead, with rookie defender Nicole Vallario scoring just four minutes into the first period. Vallario intercepted a clearing attempt by the Goldeneyes and fired a shot into the top corner of the net, marking her first PWHL goal. Later in the first, Sarah Fillier capitalized on a tic-tac-toe play, tapping in a rebound to double the Sirens' lead. Rookies Anne Cherkowski and Casey O'Brien earned their first career assists on the play.
The Sirens continued to apply pressure in the second period. Paetyn Levis extended the lead to 3-0 just 55 seconds into the frame, picking up a loose puck and finding the back of the net. Kristin O'Neill then scored a shorthanded "jailbreak" goal on a breakaway, increasing the Sirens' advantage to 4-0.
Vancouver managed to get on the board early in the third period when Sophie Jaques scored, assisted by Hannah Miller and Michelle Karvinen. However, the Sirens quickly responded. Kristýna Kaltounková, the first overall pick in the 2025 PWHL draft, scored her first career PWHL goal midway through the final period, solidifying the Sirens' 5-1 lead.
The Sirens' coach, Greg Fargo, emphasized the importance of net-front presence in their offensive execution. He noted that creating chaos around the net was key to their scoring success.
This victory marks the Sirens' first regulation win at Prudential Center since last season's home opener. The Goldeneyes, on the other hand, have now surrendered five goals in back-to-back games.
Looking ahead, the Goldeneyes will travel to Boston to face the Fleet on Wednesday, while the Sirens will head to Seattle to take on the Torrent.
