Rohit and Kohli's Record-Breaking Partnership: Surpassing Legends in India's ODI Victory Over South Africa in Ranchi

Ranchi witnessed a historic moment in Indian cricket on November 30, 2025, as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to set a new record for the most joint appearances for India in international cricket. The milestone was achieved during the first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium.

The pair of Rohit and Kohli took the field together for the 392nd time, eclipsing the previous record of 391 held by Tendulkar and Dravid. This feat marks a significant moment in the evolution of modern Indian cricket, celebrating the enduring partnership of two of its biggest contemporary stars.

India and South Africa have a long history in ODI cricket, with 94 matches played between the two nations since 1991. South Africa has dominated with 51 wins compared to India's 39, with 3 matches ending inconclusively.

In related news, Rohit Sharma is also on the brink of another significant personal milestone. He needs just 98 runs in the ODI series against South Africa to join Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid in the elite club of players with 20,000 international runs. Sharma currently has 19,902 runs across all formats. Of those 19,902 runs, 4,301 have come in Tests, 11,370 in ODIs, and 4,231 in T20Is.

If Rohit achieves this feat, he will become the 14th batsman in the world to reach 20,000 international runs. Currently, Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs), Virat Kohli (27,673 runs), and Rahul Dravid (24,208 runs) are among the top-10 highest international run-scorers. Rohit Sharma currently ranks 14th in the world for most international runs, after AB de Villiers.

Rohit Sharma has many impressive records in his career. He is the only batsman to score three double centuries in ODI cricket and holds the record for the highest individual score in an ODI innings (264 runs). He is also the only batsman to have scored 5 centuries in a single World Cup. After retiring from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup and stepping away from Test cricket in May, Rohit now represents India in just one format.
