BCCI Denies Reports of Asking Virat Kohli to Reverse Test Retirement: Ignore Baseless Speculation.

BCCI Dismisses Virat Kohli Test Comeback Rumors

Amidst swirling speculation regarding Virat Kohli's potential return to Test cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly denied that any such discussions have taken place. This announcement comes after widespread rumors circulated in the Indian media suggesting that the BCCI was considering approaching Kohli to reverse his Test retirement, particularly in light of India's recent struggles in the red-ball format.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia addressed the speculation directly, stating to AajTak on Sunday, November 30, "What's being said about Virat Kohli is just a rumour. There has been no conversation with Kohli about this. Do not give weight to rumours. Nothing of that sort has happened". Saikia's statement clarifies the board's position and seeks to quell the ongoing conjecture.

The rumors gained traction after India suffered a home series defeat, which many cricket enthusiasts viewed as a significant setback, marring India's typically strong home record. This loss led to speculation that the BCCI might consider bringing back experienced players like Kohli to stabilize the team.

Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket in May of this year, a decision that surprised many fans as it came before the Test series in England. At the time, the BCCI acknowledged Kohli's immense contribution to Test cricket and his legacy as one of the game's greats. BCCI President Roger Binny noted Kohli's leadership and the impact he had on inspiring a generation of cricketers to take pride in the longest format of the game.

Since his retirement from Test cricket, Kohli has focused on playing One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India and continues to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, Kohli scored a century in the first ODI against South Africa, further demonstrating his continued prowess in the sport.

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen weighed in on the rumors, suggesting that the BCCI should seriously consider Kohli's return to Test cricket, along with Rohit Sharma, if they were open to it. Pietersen emphasized the importance of star players in Test cricket for its survival and popularity. "I don't always believe what I read in the media or on social media. But, if it's half true that both Virat and Rohit are considering playing Test cricket again, then it needs to be taken very very seriously," Pietersen wrote on X.

Despite Pietersen's sentiments and the fans' enthusiasm for a possible Kohli comeback, the BCCI has refuted these claims, emphasizing that no such discussions have occurred. The BCCI's firm statement aims to put an end to the rumors and focus on the present team and its future endeavors.

Kohli played 123 Test matches and scored 9230 runs, including 30 centuries. He is also the record holder for the most Test double-hundreds by an Indian.
