India Coach Confirms Kohli's ODI Future After Stunning Century: Doubts Erased, "No Questions" Remain

Ranchi: India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, has firmly dismissed any doubts surrounding Virat Kohli's future in One Day International (ODI) cricket, following the star batsman's magnificent 52nd ODI century against South Africa in Ranchi. Kohli’s performance, a masterful 135 off 120 balls, not only secured a 17-run victory for India but also ignited a fresh wave of discussion about the veteran's role in the team's long-term plans.

Kotak, however, was quick to shut down any speculation, asserting that Kohli's current form and fitness levels speak for themselves. "I don't know why we need to look at all this," Kotak stated, emphasizing the importance of focusing on Kohli's present contributions rather than engaging in premature discussions about his future. "He's really batting well. I don't see any reason we need to talk about his future," he added.

Kohli's record-extending 52nd ODI hundred, achieved on November 30, 2025, showcased his enduring class and commitment. The innings, adorned with 11 fours and seven sixes, was a testament to his physical fitness, mental sharpness, and unwavering passion for the game. It also marked his third ODI century at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

Kotak lauded Kohli's match-defining innings, recognizing it as another compelling reminder of the value that experienced players bring to the team. "It was an outstanding knock, obviously. He batted really well, not just in the one-day format but all the formats he has done well," Kotak said. "This was the 52nd ODI hundred he got, so he's a thoroughly outstanding player, and he took responsibility, and the way he batted was very good," he added.

Furthermore, Kotak highlighted the significant impact of having seasoned campaigners like Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the squad. He noted that their experience and partnership make a huge difference to the team. In the same match, Kohli and Rohit Sharma achieved their 20th century stand in ODIs. Together, they surpassed the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid for the most international matches played by an Indian pair, marking their 392nd appearance together.

Rohit Sharma's enthusiastic reaction to Kohli's century also went viral, capturing the camaraderie and mutual respect between the two veterans. Cameras caught Rohit springing up in delight, celebrating his longtime teammate's landmark moment.

Addressing concerns about Kohli's fitness, Kotak reassured that he is "fine as much as I know". He emphasized that the focus should remain on appreciating their current form and contributions. "It's just the way he's batting, it's just brilliant, man. I wouldn't really. The way he's performing, the way he maintains his fitness, there is, there are no questions about anything," Kotak affirmed.

Kohli himself has expressed a similar sentiment, stating that as long as he maintains his fitness, mental readiness, and excitement for the game, everything else will fall into place. "So as long as my fitness levels are up and my enjoyment and mental sharpness is there, then you can visualise the game and you see yourself running as hard, reacting fast on the ball, then you know it's fine," Kohli said.

With Kohli in sublime form and displaying unwavering commitment, both the team management and fans can rest assured that his ODI future is secure, and discussions about his retirement are, for now, firmly off the table.
