Cristian Romero shines, Frank praises Tottenham's resilience in hard-fought draw against Brentford.

Romero Shines as Frank Praises Tottenham's Resilience in Draw

Tottenham Hotspur's Cristian Romero emerged as the hero in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Newcastle, earning high praise from Spurs boss Thomas Frank. The Argentine defender scored twice, including a stunning late overhead kick, to salvage a point for his team.

Newcastle had taken the lead through Bruno Guimaraes in the 71st minute, but Romero responded swiftly with a diving header from a Mohammed Kudus cross. Anthony Gordon then restored Newcastle's lead from the penalty spot, setting the stage for Romero's late heroics. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Romero executed a remarkable overhead kick that bounced through the box and found the bottom corner, securing a draw for Tottenham.

Frank lauded Romero's performance, highlighting his defensive prowess and composure on the ball. "I think that was the perfect bicycle kick, hit with the shin, aiming for the bottom corner," Frank said. "Praising Cuti, I think he deserves that. A top performance defending. On the ball: coolness, calmness, duels, then get up there and score two goals". He also humorously noted that while the bicycle kick would likely receive more attention, he considered the diving header to be the more exceptional goal.

Despite the draw, which leaves Tottenham winless in their last five Premier League matches and sitting 11th in the table, Frank commended his team's character and mentality. He emphasized their willingness to fight back after going behind twice in a challenging away game, marking their fourth game in ten days. "I really liked the character and mentality in the team and what this showed after three tough games," Frank stated. "To go here to the fourth game in 10 days, the third away game at a very difficult place – go behind two times and come back shows everything about the willingness and mentality in the team".

The penalty awarded to Newcastle was a contentious issue, with Frank expressing his disappointment. The penalty was given after a review of a tangle between Rodrigo Bentancur and Dan Burn. Frank said, "The second one is very disappointing to concede because I think for me it's never a penalty,". He even mentioned that some individuals from Newcastle agreed with his assessment.

Tottenham's next Premier League match is on December 6, 2025, at home against Brentford.
