Coyne-Schofield's Three Goals Power Frost Past Charge: A Dominant 5-1 Victory on the Ice.

Kendall Coyne-Schofield's hat trick propelled the Minnesota Frost to a decisive 5-1 victory over the Ottawa Charge on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in a rematch of last season's Walter Cup Final. The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) game, held in Ottawa, Ontario, saw the Frost dominate early, maintaining their lead throughout the contest.

The game carried extra significance as players from both teams sported pink ribbons, and many fans wore pink to show their support for Ottawa Charge’s head coach, Carla MacLeod, who is undergoing treatment after recently being diagnosed with breast cancer and was absent from the game.

Minnesota came out strong, scoring three goals in the first period. Coyne-Schofield initiated the scoring blitz just 24 seconds into the game, assisted by Kelly Pannek and Britta Curl-Salemme. Barely three minutes later, Dominique Petrie, with assists from Denisa Křížová and Lee Stecklein, extended the Frost's lead. Grace Zumwinkle then scored an unassisted goal a few minutes later, making it 3-0.

The second period saw solid defensive play and good chances for both teams, but neither side managed to find the back of the net, leaving the score unchanged heading into the final frame.

Coyne-Schofield scored her second goal of the night early in the third period, assisted by Pannek and Mae Batherson, pushing the score to 4-0. The Ottawa Charge responded on the power play when Rory Guilday scored, assisted by Brianne Jenner and Gabbie Hughes. However, any chance of a Charge comeback was essentially spoiled when Coyne-Schofield executed a spectacular move inside Ottawa's blue line before scoring her second of the night. In the final minutes, Coyne-Schofield completed her hat trick with an empty-net goal, sealing the 5-1 victory for the Frost. This was her first PWHL hat trick.

The goaltending matchup featured Nicole Hensley for the Frost and Gwyneth Philips for the Charge. The Frost displayed their offensive prowess, converting their opportunities into goals, while solid defense limited the Charge's scoring chances.
