Arne Slot Unveils Salah's Feelings About Consecutive Liverpool Benchings: Inside the Star's Reaction to Limited Playtime.

Liverpool's star forward, Mohamed Salah, has been the subject of much discussion after being benched in back-to-back Premier League games under new manager Arne Slot. This marks the first time since April 2024 that Salah has been excluded from the starting lineup, raising questions about his form and future role within the team.

Slot has addressed Salah's reaction to being benched, acknowledging that the Egyptian international was not pleased with the decision. "It's a fair assumption (that he wasn't happy to be left out)," Slot said in a press conference. "And it's a normal reaction from a player who is good enough to play for us". He also added, "He wasn't the only one who wasn't happy that he wasn't starting, I can tell you. And that's normal".

Despite the player's disappointment, Slot has commended Salah's professionalism and attitude. "But the way he behaved was as you would expect from the professional he is," Slot stated. "He was very supportive for his team-mates. Handled himself really well during the day and yesterday in the session as well". Slot emphasized that Salah's response has been exemplary, both on and off the pitch. "He reacts like you want, a top professional," Slot said. "He trains really good and is positive towards his team-mates. He's an example when he plays, and now he's an example of how to act when you don't play".

Slot's decision to bench Salah comes amidst a packed schedule of four games in ten days. He explained that his team selection is a balance between continuity and freshness, stating, "It's obvious and clear we need the full squad tonight because a few who start aren't able to play a full 90 again. More than ever, we need more than 11 players tonight". Slot also noted that it's never an easy decision to make.

Salah's performances have faced scrutiny this season, with some critics suggesting he has not been at his best. While he remains Liverpool's joint-second top scorer, his overall level of play has been below the high standards he set in previous seasons. In the Premier League this season, Salah has four goals and two assists. Last season, he had 29 goals and 18 assists.

Looking ahead, Salah is set to join the Egyptian national team for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in December. Slot confirmed that Salah is scheduled to depart on December 15, after Liverpool's match against Brighton & Hove Albion. This means Liverpool will have to prepare for a period without one of their key players. Slot acknowledged this, saying, "We have to find a way to play without him as he'll not be here. That's true".

Despite the recent benching and upcoming international duty, Slot has affirmed Salah's importance to the team. "He has been so important for us, for so many years, and he will be important for us in the coming days," Slot said. He also stated that Salah has been outstanding for the club and will be in the future.
