Suryavanshi's Bat Swing: A Talking Point in the Cricket World
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old cricket prodigy, has become a sensation in the cricketing world, not just for his record-breaking performances but also for his captivating bat swing. The young talent first gained prominence after being picked up by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for ₹1.1 crore in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, making him the youngest player to ever sign an IPL contract.
Zubin Bharucha, the Rajasthan Royals Director of High Performance, has closely observed Suryavanshi's game. According to Bharucha, Suryavanshi possesses an "amazing bat swing" that makes him naturally suited for the T20 format. "His batting DNA has got an amazing bat swing, that attribute is so high in his game that he is naturally suited to the T20 game. The way he picks up the bat, it comes over…," Bharucha explained. He also noted that while comparing anyone to Sachin Tendulkar is difficult, Suryavanshi's talent for striking the ball is exceptional.
Jos Buttler, the star England batter, has also lauded Suryavanshi, comparing his bat swing to those of cricketing legends Yuvraj Singh and Brian Lara. Buttler was particularly impressed by Suryavanshi's fearless approach and mature gameplay during the 2025 IPL season. He highlighted Suryavanshi's record-breaking innings against Gujarat Titans, where he scored a century in just 35 balls, becoming the youngest-ever centurion in T20 cricket. Buttler was awestruck by the power behind Suryavanshi's shots, noting that the sixes weren't just clearing boundaries but were significantly large.
Suryavanshi's journey has been marked by remarkable achievements. He became the youngest player to feature in the IPL and the youngest to score a T20 century. In just seven innings, he amassed 252 runs at an impressive strike rate of 206.55. Besides T20s, Suryavanshi has also shone in other formats, including a 58-ball century in a four-day match against Australia U-19.
Adding to the narrative, Suryavanshi revealed that he used a special bat gifted to him by RR captain Sanju Samson to score his IPL century. "He gave me this one, and I scored my IPL century with this. I made that century in 35 balls," Suryavanshi shared.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's rise in the world of cricket is attributed not only to his talent and hard work but also to his "child-like wonder" and joy for the game. As Sharda Ugra noted, "In a world filled by six-packed, bearded gents, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's batting comes from a child-like wonder". This perspective adds a layer of appreciation for the young cricketer, who continues to impress with each performance.
