The second period saw a flurry of goals. Seider opened the scoring on the power play at 5:57 of the second period, but Gauthier responded for the Ducks less than two minutes later. Rasmussen then put the Red Wings back in front, only for Kreider to tie the game again. Sandin-Pellikka scored his second career goal to give Detroit a 3-2 lead.
DeBrincat extended the Red Wings' lead to 4-2 early in the third period with a power-play goal. Granlund pulled the Ducks within one, but Larkin scored on a breakaway to restore Detroit's two-goal advantage. DeBrincat sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.
John Gibson started in goal for the Red Wings but left the game after two periods due to an undisclosed injury. He stopped 15 of 17 shots. Cam Talbot replaced Gibson in the third period and made 11 saves. Lukas Dostal made 27 saves for the Ducks.
The Red Wings were strong on the power play, scoring on two of their four opportunities. The Ducks were unable to convert on their three power-play chances.
With the win, the Red Wings improved to 10-7-0 on the season. The Ducks fell to 11-4-1. These two teams faced off earlier in the season on Halloween, with Anaheim winning that contest 5-2.
