However, this tour marks a significant transition, with Shubman Gill taking over as captain following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket. Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain, signaling a generational shift in Indian Test cricket.

Upon the team's arrival at Mumbai airport, the ever-present paparazzi were keen to get a few words from the players. When further asked if he would miss the garden, Pant added, "Garden ki bahut yaad aayegi," meaning "I am going to miss the garden a lot."
