Stephanie Frappart, a name synonymous with breaking barriers and shattering glass ceilings in the world of football, is set to officiate the international friendly between England and Senegal on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the City Ground in Nottingham. This marks another significant milestone in her already illustrious career, further solidifying her place as a true pioneer in the sport.

The French official is no stranger to making history. In 2023, she became the first female to oversee an England men's senior game when she took charge of their match against Australia at Wembley Stadium. Now, she will once again take the reins as Thomas Tuchel's team concludes their season against Senegal.

Frappart's journey to the top echelons of football refereeing is a testament to her skill, dedication, and unwavering passion for the game. She began refereeing youth games at the young age of 13 and by 18, she was already officiating national U-19 games. Her career has been marked by a series of firsts, breaking down barriers that were once considered insurmountable. She was the first woman to referee in men's Ligue 2 and Ligue 1 in France, paving the way for future generations of female referees.

Her trailblazing spirit extended to the international stage as well. Frappart became the first woman to referee in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup, earning praise from players and managers alike. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, she achieved another historic feat, becoming the first woman to referee a men's FIFA World Cup fixture when she led the teams out for the match between Germany and Costa Rica. She also has a wealth of experience at the Women's World Cup, having been involved in the 2015, 2019 and 2023 editions.

Joining Frappart's team for the England vs. Senegal game are assistant referees Aurélien Drouet and Camille Soriano, with Abdelatif Kherradji as the fourth official. Mathieu Vernice will serve as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), with Benoit Millot as the Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR), creating an all-French officiating team.

The Football Association (FA) approached the French Football Federation regarding officials for the non-competitive international, and when Stephanie's availability was indicated, the FA was eager to seize the opportunity. Peter Elsworth, Head of Refereeing Operations, lauded Frappart as an "outstanding referee" who has officiated on the highest stages in France, across Europe, and at both the men's and women's FIFA World Cups.

As Stephanie Frappart continues to break down barriers and inspire aspiring referees around the world, her appointment for the England vs Senegal match serves as a reminder of the progress being made in promoting inclusivity and diversity in football. Her presence on the pitch is not just a symbolic gesture, but a testament to her exceptional abilities and unwavering commitment to the beautiful game.
