Thomas Tuchel has opened up about his future as England manager, expressing a strong inclination to remain in the role beyond the 2026 World Cup. Despite an 18-month contract that concludes after the tournament in North America, Tuchel admits he is enjoying his time with the Three Lions and feels a deep connection to the team and the opportunity.

Speaking to Talksport, Tuchel revealed the allure of staying on, regardless of the outcome of the 2026 World Cup. "I will always be tempted to stay because I love the group and I love the opportunity," he stated. He emphasized the honor of managing England and acknowledged the significance of the upcoming Euro 2028, which will be partly hosted in England. "I know what's coming after a huge tournament in England. I will always be tempted. I can tell you that even after the disappointing result [against Senegal]."

Tuchel's initial appointment was met with both enthusiasm and skepticism, as he is only the third foreign manager to take the reins for England. Tasked with ending England's long wait for a major trophy, a key focus for Tuchel is building a team capable of going all the way at the World Cup. Despite a recent setback in a friendly against Senegal, where England suffered a 3-1 defeat, Tuchel remains optimistic and committed to the task at hand.

The former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich boss was appointed as England's new head coach after Gareth Southgate's departure after EURO 2024. Since taking charge, Tuchel has overseen a period of transition, experimenting with different formations and personnel to find the right formula.

While the World Cup remains the immediate priority, Tuchel's gaze extends to Euro 2028, with England as one of the host nations. The prospect of leading the team on home soil is a significant draw for the German coach. "It's an honour to be England's head coach. I know what is coming after [the World Cup], a huge tournament in England. I will always be tempted".

According to reports, Tuchel has already identified 16 players for his 26-man World Cup squad, indicating a clear vision for the team's future. However, he also recognizes the need for flexibility and adaptability, acknowledging that "we need a bit of time. We still have time."

Ultimately, Tuchel's decision will likely depend on a multitude of factors, including England's performance at the 2026 World Cup, his personal ambitions, and the FA's long-term vision for the national team. However, his recent comments suggest a strong desire to continue leading the Three Lions beyond his current contract, driven by a love for the team, the opportunity, and the prospect of achieving something special with England.
