Radha Yadav has been named as the replacement for the injured Shuchi Upadhyay in the India Women's squad for their upcoming tour of England. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the change on Thursday, announcing that Upadhyay was ruled out due to a left shin injury sustained during the pre-tour camp at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Yadav, a left-arm spinner, is a T20 specialist and a seasoned campaigner, making a comeback to the national side after last playing an international game in December 2024. She has represented India in 84 T20Is, taking 97 wickets with an economy rate of 6.62. Her contributions with the ball include spells of 4/29 against the West Indies and 3/14 against Bangladesh in 2024. Beyond her bowling, the 25-year-old is also known for her exceptional fielding skills, bringing a positive impact to the team's morale. She has also featured in seven ODIs, where she has taken eight wickets.
Upadhyay, a 20-year-old left-arm spinner, recently made her ODI debut for India last month during the tri-series in Sri Lanka. She also had a notable performance in the Senior Women's One Day Trophy in December of last year, where she was the third-highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets at an economy rate of 3.48 in nine innings. Unfortunately, her left shin injury has sidelined her for the England tour.
India's tour of England is set to commence on June 28 and will include five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals. Yadav's inclusion in the squad is a like-for-like replacement and will bolster the team's spin attack. She last played an international match in December 2024, where she took four wickets against the West Indies at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Despite limited game time in the 2025 Women's Premier League, where she played only two matches, her experience and skill set make her a valuable asset to the team. In addition to her bowling prowess, Yadav has also demonstrated her capabilities with the bat, including a high score of 48* in the 50-over format. She also holds the distinction of being the first Indian with four wickets and three catches in a single Women's One-Day International against New Zealand in 2024.
The updated T20I squad for the England tour includes Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (WK), Yastika Bhatia (WK), Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Sree Charani, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, and Radha Yadav.
