St. Louis City and the LA Galaxy battled to a 3-3 draw on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in a match that saw João Klauss net his first career MLS hat trick. The game, filled with dramatic twists and turns, ultimately ended with Klauss's stoppage-time goal salvaging a point for the home side.
Klauss opened the scoring in the 35th minute, displaying skillful footwork to evade Galaxy defender Zanka before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Novak Micovic. The Galaxy responded before halftime, with Gabriel Pec finishing off a well-worked team move in the 41st minute, assisted by Marco Reus and Matheus Nascimento.
The second half began with St. Louis regaining the lead in the 47th minute. Célio Pompeu played an excellent through ball to Klauss, who raced in and fired a shot past Micovic at the near post. However, the Galaxy quickly equalized again, as Matheus Nascimento scored his first MLS goal in the 51st minute, following a clever back-heel pass from Reus.
As the game neared its conclusion, it appeared the Galaxy had secured their second consecutive victory. In the 87th minute, a misplayed back pass by St. Louis defender Jayden Reid allowed Pec to steal the ball and score his second goal of the match, giving the Galaxy a 3-2 lead.
However, Klauss had other plans. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, St. Louis goalkeeper Roman Burki launched a free kick from beyond midfield towards the edge of the box. Timo Baumgartl flicked a header towards goal, and Klauss reacted quickly to slot home a first-touch shot inside the back post, completing his hat trick and securing a hard-fought draw for St. Louis City.
The draw sees St. Louis City's record move to 3-9-6, and they have only one win in their last 14 games, a 2-1 victory over San Jose on May 31. The Galaxy's record goes to 1-12-5.
