As the highly anticipated first Test between India and England approaches on June 20, cricket analysts and former players are offering their insights on the ideal playing XI for both sides. With key players having retired, the composition of the Indian team, in particular, is subject to much speculation and debate.

Several prominent voices in the cricketing world have weighed in, offering their suggested lineups and rationale. Former Indian player Sanjay Bangar has made some bold choices, opting to leave out established names like Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur from his XI. Bangar's choices indicate a preference for strengthening the bowling attack, emphasizing the need for penetration and solidity. He suggests that none of the Test matches will end in a draw and that India will win the series 3-2.

Aakash Chopra anticipates Shubman Gill, the likely captain, to bat at No. 4, a position that could become his long-term role in Test cricket. Chopra suggests Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal could fill the No. 3 slot. He also favors Nitish Kumar Reddy over Karun Nair for the No. 6 position, citing Reddy's impressive form, including a century in a recent match.

Other predictions suggest a likely opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, with Sai Sudharsan at No. 3 and Shubman Gill taking Virat Kohli's No. 4 spot. Karun Nair is seen as a strong contender for No. 5, given his experience playing in England. The all-rounder spots are expected to be filled by Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, who have both enjoyed success in England previously.

The pace attack is another area of discussion. While Jasprit Bumrah is a certain pick, his workload management means he might not play all five Tests. Mohammed Siraj is expected to play a crucial role, leading the attack in Bumrah's absence. Prasidh Krishna is also likely to be included for his pace and bounce. There are differing opinions on whether to include Arshdeep Singh or Akash Deep to round out the pace options.

Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir have received advice regarding Jasprit Bumrah's inclusion. Some suggest resting Bumrah for certain matches to manage his workload, given his history with back injuries. This would allow other pacers like Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna to step up and gain valuable experience.
