The 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup witnessed a thrilling encounter between Costa Rica and Suriname at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, where Costa Rica edged out Suriname 4-3. One of the game's highlights was Gyrano Kerk's goal, assisted by Richonell Margaret, which temporarily tied the score for Suriname.

Costa Rica started strong, with Alonso Martínez scoring in the 14th minute, followed by a Manfred Ugalde penalty in the 19th, giving them a comfortable 2-0 lead. However, Suriname showed resilience. In the 34th minute, Richonell Margaret delivered a precise cross from the left side, finding Gyrano Kerk, who expertly headed the ball past Costa Rica's veteran goalkeeper, Keylor Navas. This goal cut Costa Rica's lead to 2-1 and injected new life into Suriname's attack.

The second half saw Suriname continue their fightback. In the 59th minute, Kerk turned provider, winning the ball and setting up Richonell Margaret, who finished with a left-footed shot to equalize. This goal showcased the dynamic partnership between Kerk and Margaret, who were instrumental in Suriname's comeback.

Suriname then took the lead in the 64th minute when Shaquille Pinas converted a penalty, making it 3-2. However, Costa Rica responded in the 76th minute through Josimar Alcócer, who leveled the score after capitalizing on a rebound.

The match seemed destined for a draw, but in the 13th minute of stoppage time, Dion Malone of Suriname committed a foul in the penalty area. Manfred Ugalde stepped up and converted the penalty, securing a 4-3 victory for Costa Rica.

Despite the loss, the performance of Gyrano Kerk and Richonell Margaret was a major positive for Suriname. Kerk's goal and assist demonstrated his attacking prowess, while Margaret's contributions highlighted her playmaking abilities. Their partnership posed a constant threat to Costa Rica's defense and played a key role in Suriname's comeback from a 2-0 deficit.

Costa Rica will continue their Gold Cup campaign against the Dominican Republic, while Suriname will face Mexico in their next match.
