The Group B match between Costa Rica and Suriname at the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup delivered a thrilling encounter, ending with a 4-3 victory for Costa Rica. The game, held at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, was a pulsating affair filled with drama, momentum swings, and late goals.

Costa Rica started strong, establishing an early 2-0 lead. Alonso Martínez opened the scoring in the 14th minute, followed by a penalty from Manfred Ugalde in the 19th minute. It appeared as though Costa Rica, led by Miguel Herrera and the returning Keylor Navas, were on their way to a comfortable victory.

Suriname, however, had other plans. Making just their fourth Gold Cup appearance, they responded resiliently. Gyrano Kerk scored with a header in the 34th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 before halftime. The second half saw Suriname completely shift the game's momentum. They scored twice to take the lead, leaving Costa Rica reeling.

The match remained intense, with both teams creating opportunities. In the dying moments, Costa Rica was awarded a penalty after a late challenge inside the box. Ugalde stepped up and calmly converted, leveling the score at 3-3. But the drama didn't end there. In extra time, Costa Rica found the net again, securing a 4-3 lead and ultimately winning the match.

The victory was crucial for Costa Rica, giving them an early advantage in Group B, which also includes Mexico and the Dominican Republic. For Suriname, despite the loss, their spirited performance and fight back will give them confidence as they continue in the tournament.
