Glasgow witnessed a historic moment in cricket as the Netherlands emerged victorious against Nepal in the first-ever T20I decided by a triple Super Over. The match, held on June 16, 2025, as part of the Scotland T20I Tri-Series, was filled with twists and turns, ultimately delivering a spectacle that will be etched in cricketing history.

The Netherlands, after electing to bat first, posted a total of 152/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Vikramjit Singh (30) and Teja Nidamanuru (35) provided a solid foundation, while Saqib Zulfiqar's late flourish of 25 runs off 12 balls helped propel the Dutch to a competitive score. Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 18 runs, supported by Nandan Yadav who took 2.

Nepal's chase mirrored the Dutch innings in its ebb and flow. Kushal Bhurtel (34) and captain Rohit Paudel (48) were instrumental in keeping Nepal on track. However, regular wickets hampered their progress. Nandan Yadav's quickfire 12 off just 4 balls, including a boundary on the final ball, tied the scores and forced the match into a Super Over. Daniel Doram's tight bowling spell of 3/14 further added pressure on the Nepalese batting lineup.

The first Super Over saw Nepal score 19 runs, thanks to Kushal Bhurtel's explosive hitting. The Netherlands responded with Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd matching the score, the latter hitting a crucial six on the final ball to keep his team in the game.

The drama escalated in the second Super Over. The Netherlands, batting first, managed 17 runs, with Scott Edwards leading the charge with a six. Nepal, needing 18 to win, saw Rohit Paudel smash a six off the first ball. With wickets falling and pressure mounting, Dipendra Singh Airee hit a six off the last ball to tie the scores again, pushing the match into an unprecedented third Super Over. This marked only the second time in men's T20I history that a double Super Over had occurred, the first being between India and Afghanistan in 2024.

The third Super Over was a decisive one. Zach Lion-Cachet bowled a phenomenal over for the Netherlands, dismissing both Rohit Paudel and Rupesh Singh without conceding a single run. With just one run needed for victory, Michael Levitt sealed the deal with a six off Sandeep Lamichhane's first ball, securing a memorable win for the Netherlands.

The thrilling victory marked the Netherlands' first win in the tournament after an initial defeat to Scotland. For Nepal, the loss was a bitter pill to swallow after coming so close to victory. Nepal will face Scotland in their next match.
