Mumbai City FC has announced the signing of young midfielder Zothanpuia on a three-year deal, bolstering their squad ahead of the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The 20-year-old joins the Islanders from Aizawl FC, adding fresh energy and depth to their midfield options. The contract will keep Zothanpuia with Mumbai City FC until the end of the 2027-28 season.

Zothanpuia, fondly known as 'Puipuia', expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating, "I am thrilled to join Mumbai City. It is a club with a rich history and a record of winning trophies and titles. I am looking forward to contributing to that effort and hope to learn and grow with the experience in the squad. Playing in the ISL has been a dream of mine, and I am excited to live that dream with Mumbai City."

Sujay Sharma, the Director of Football at Mumbai City FC, also commented on the signing, highlighting Zothanpuia's potential and versatility. "Zothanpuia is a young and promising talent who has shown potential in his early years. His football attributes and ability to contribute across midfield will add depth to our squad. We are building a competitive and talented group for the new season and the future. We are looking forward to seeing him develop and grow with the group," Sharma said.

Born on April 7, 2005, Zothanpuia began his professional football career with Electric Veng FC in Mizoram in 2022. He then featured for Oranje FC in the I-League 2 during the 2023-24 season. His journey continued with Southern Samity in the 2024 Calcutta League, before joining Aizawl FC for their I-League campaign in the 2024-25 season. In his 20 appearances for Aizawl FC, Zothanpuia scored three goals and provided two assists, showcasing his potential in the attacking midfield role.

Mumbai City FC is strategically investing in emerging players to strengthen its midfield. Zothanpuia's arrival aligns with the club's vision of building a balanced team with a mix of experience and young talent, aiming to compete at the highest level while nurturing young talent for the future. The club is focused on creating a squad that can contend for titles and trophies in the upcoming seasons.

Zothanpuia's move to Mumbai City FC marks a significant step in his career, providing him with the opportunity to showcase his skills on a bigger stage in the ISL. His addition is expected to bring dynamism and creativity to the Mumbai City FC midfield.
