Krishna Nagar, the Indian Paralympics gold medalist and para-shuttler, is aiming for a strong showing at the Asian Para-Badminton Championships, which commenced on June 17, 2025, in Korat, Thailand and will continue until June 22. After the disappointment of missing out on a medal at the Paris Paralympics last year, the Jaipur-based athlete is approaching the competition with renewed determination and focus.

Nagar, who stands at approximately 4 feet 4 inches, has become a giant in the world of para-badminton. Since beginning his professional career in 2017, the World No. 2 in para-badminton men's Singles SH6 has amassed an impressive collection of 13 gold, 11 silver, and 2 bronze medals on the international stage. These include a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics and another at the 2024 World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.

Speaking to ANI, Nagar expressed his optimism about India's chances at the Asian Para-Badminton Championships. With a large contingent of over 70 players representing the nation, he anticipates a significant medal haul. "I think India will secure a lot of medals this time," he stated, highlighting the open entry format of the competition, which allows for greater participation.

Nagar's preparation for the Asian Championships has been marked by a strong commitment to his game. He secured a bronze medal at the 6th Fazza Dubai Para Badminton International 2025 in May, dedicating it to the Indian Armed Forces. Despite battling sickness recently, the para-shuttler affirmed that he is now fit and focused on delivering his best performance. He also acknowledged the influence of able-bodied athletes like PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen on para-sports, noting the improvement in the level of competition post-2020 and 2024 Paralympics.

Nagar also credited the support from government initiatives like the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), media coverage, and sponsorship for the rise of para-sports.

Looking ahead, Nagar's schedule includes the World Championship in February 2026, followed by the Asian Para Games. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and effectively managing pressure during games. While acknowledging the growing popularity of para-badminton in India, Nagar noted that it still lags behind sports like cricket and kabaddi in terms of overall recognition. He expressed gratitude to sponsors like Olympic Gold Quest, the Sports Authority of India, and the Rajasthan State Government for their continued support.
