KL Rahul has expressed a sense of unfamiliarity as he enters the Indian dressing room for the Test series against England without the stalwarts, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The two veterans recently retired from Test cricket, leaving a void in the team's batting lineup and leadership. Rahul acknowledged the significant impact Kohli and Sharma have had on Indian cricket over the past decade, stating that he has "never walked into a team where there is no Virat or Rohit."

Speaking to his IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals, Rahul admitted that their absence creates a "strange feeling" within the team. He emphasized that both players have been "pillars of Indian cricket" and that not having them around will be a "huge miss." In his 50-odd Test matches, Rahul has always had either Kohli or Rohit, or both, by his side. He respects their decision to retire, acknowledging their immense contributions to the country and their status as legends of the game.

With Kohli and Rohit's departure, Rahul recognizes the opportunity for other players, including himself, to step up and take on greater responsibility. He is now the most experienced batter in the squad and understands the importance of leading by example. The England tour presents a platform for Rahul to solidify his position as a key figure in the Indian Test side.

Rahul has been preparing for the England series since the conclusion of the IPL. He has been working closely with his coach to fine-tune his skills and strategies for the challenging conditions in England. He acknowledged that England is a tough place to tour for any batting lineup. Rahul also spoke about Karun Nair's comeback to the team after eight years, recognising his resilience.

The upcoming Test series marks the beginning of a new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for India, and the team is undergoing a significant transition. Rahul's experience and leadership will be crucial as India aims to build a strong foundation for the future. While acknowledging the massive shoes that Kohli and Rohit leave behind, Rahul is optimistic about the potential of the young players in the squad. He believes that it is time for the next generation to rise to the occasion and make their mark on the international stage.
